Portal Pack

A team of Cubs and Scouts from 18th Chester, 1st Guilden Sutton, 1st Malpas, 1st Sandstone, 1st Tarporley Portal Pack and 1st Waverton represented the District in the joint Cub and Scout Gala last Saturday at Woolston.

Henry Oliver from Tarporley finished second in the 10 year old freestyle final and was in the Cub relay team that also reached the final following success in their heat.

The Cub team were 4th and the Scouts won! Congratulations and well done to all! Thanks to all the swimmers as everyone made it through the heats to the final, and their parents for bringing them and supporting them.

A team of 5 boys from the Pack recently took part in the annual Chester District Swimming Gala which was held at the Chester City Baths.

The boys competed against 8 other teams from the District in age groups of 8, 9 and 10 year olds.

The gala included individual races for each age in breast stroke, backstroke and freestyle as well as freestyle and medley relays.

The team, Henry Oliver & Lucas Dorsett (10 year olds), Cameron Stewart & Theo Lavin(9 year olds) and Rory Dorsett (8 year old) all swam brilliantly and represented the Pack well.

The competition was tough and after all races were over the pack emerged with 2 medals, both going to Henry Oliver, a gold in the freestyle and a silver in the backstroke. Henry’s success means he will now be part of the team representing the District at the County Gala on 17th November.

Special mention perhaps should go to Rory who as the only 8 year old in the team had to take part in all 5 races!

However I was very proud of the whole team who as ever were well behaved and a pleasure to take to the event. Well done to you all and thank you.

Tuesday 25th February saw the Annual Chester District Cub Craft Competition Taking Place.

Portal Pack's Team - Jake Bailey-Saltmarsh, Sam Bailey-Saltmarsh, Jacob Ford, Jasper Naylor, Charlie Clarke and James Bowkett had just two hours to design an Olympic Stadium, Sketch an Olympic athlete and present a poster advertising an Olympic event.

The teams were scored on teamwork, planning, behaviour, tidiness and the final outcome of their efforts.

Against 9 other teams, the boys came a very good third and were presented with a Bronze Certificate following the Olympic theme.

Well done boys and thank you for representing the pack so well.

As in previous years, Portal Pack entered a team in the annual District Swimming Gala, which took place recently in the Chester City Baths.

The team were Cameron Stewart, Sam Bailey-Saltmarsh, Lucas Dorsett, Jake Bailey-Saltmarsh, Henry Oliver and Rory Willson.

The boys swam brilliantly competing in their different age ranges of 8, 9 and 10 year olds. Henry Oliver had to swim above his age so did particularly well to gain a silver medal in the front crawl.

Henry, Lucas and Cameron received bronze medals for their third place swim in the freestyle relay.

Thank you to all the boys for representing the pack so well.

Last Saturday, 22nd January, 5 boys from Portal Pack took part in the annual Chester & District Craft Competition. The team members were William Prior, Jasper Naylor, Jacob Ford, Jake Bailey-Saltmarsh & Lucas Dorsett.

The boys had an hour and a half in which to produce a greetings card, design a poster advertising Cubs and make a model of a bridge. The teams taking part were judged as they worked on team work, tidiness, good behaviour and the quality of what they produced.

All Cubs that took part in the event were awarded their artist badge at the end of the afternoon’s work. Portal Pack finished in joint 2nd place which was excellent, well done to all who took part thank you for representing the Pack so well.
