Portal Pack

The Chester District Cub Swimming Gala was held at The Old City Baths recently. A total of 11 Cub Packs took part. There were 10 races in total including freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke over the full length of the pool as well as fun relays. Points were gained by teams depending on where they finished in each of the events.

The Portal Pack team, William Line, Henry McElroy, Joshua Reade and Oliver Johnson-Platt were placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in each race which culminated in them finishing the afternoon as gala winners. Well done to the team, and thanks to the District for organising the event.

Christmas came to Portal Pack Cubs this week as they held a belated party to celebrate the festive season! Cubs and leaders were decked in their Christmas jumpers and enjoyed traditional party games which included pass the parcel, the paper chain challenge and musical chairs. The evening was rounded off with pizza, cornflake cakes and Irn Bru.

Winners of the best Christmas jumper were Noah and Henry.

A team of 6 Cubs from Portal Pack recently took part in the annual Chester District Cub Craft Competition which this year was actually hosted by Tarporley.

The team was William Line, Sebastian Winder, Sam Stanyer, Magnus Raybould, Tom Wood and Ben Scott.

All the teams were given two hours to make a model of a space rocket, produce an invitation to a space party and make models of aliens. The boys worked well as a team to come up with what had been asked for and finished as Runners Up in the competition.

All the boys that took part were awarded their Artist Badge.

Well done to you all.

Ode to a Hagis Quizz

Last Wednesday saw Portal Pack Cubs celebrating Burns Night as they worked towards their International Activity Badge.

During the evening the Cubs learnt about Robert Burns and listened to some of his poetry.

They took part in a quiz to test their knowledge about Scotland and also had a 'haggis" puddin race and tossed the caber.

Rikki then recited the Selkirk grace before the evening was rounded off with the Cubs enjoying haggis, neaps and tatties, Scottish shortbread and caramac which was all washed down by Irn Bru!
